I’ve always loved my lashes—they’re fairly long and definitely dark—but I love the way they look even more when I’m wearing false lashes. I’ll admit it, I’m challenged when it comes to wearing fake eyelashes. I can never seem to get it right, so if a makeup artist isn’t applying them, I forgo them altogether and just load on the mascara.
While lash extensions aren’t anything new, they’ve become more popular in the last few years, and now I really understand why. Regardless of the style or length you ultimately choose, they make your eyes look more defined and more awake, like you have on some makeup even if you don’t. In a nutshell, with lash extensions, you can actually utter the phrase, “I woke up like this.”
In true beauty editor fashion, the more I started seeing the amazing before-and-after images and the transformative power that comes along with a pair of extensions, I had to give them a try myself. I figured that if I didn’t like them, I’d never have to wear them again, but I had a feeling that wouldn’t be the case (and I was right!).
I headed over to Op-Lashes Toronto, and with the help of my technician, picked out the right length and style that would suit what I was looking for. I wanted long and full, but I didn’t want them to look fake. Next, I cozied up on the bed and let the technician work her magic for almost two hours, drifting off into a deep sleep during the process. When she was all done, I held up a mirror and couldn’t believe how good my lashes looked.
My new lashes came with a laundry list of instructions on how to take care of them: no washing with regular cleanser, no rubbing or pulling at them, taking it easy on the mascara and liquid eyeliner, and, most importantly, brushing them daily. Easy enough to follow, I treated my new lashes with extreme care—three weeks later, they still looked good.
But the best part of the whole experience was how many times I was told how pretty my lashes looked. In fact, the most common comment I got was, “Wow! Your lashes are so long and look so good. You’re lucky to have real lashes that look that.” Now, the secret is out.
